Student Resources

APU has been on its current learning management system (LMS), Sakai, since 2011. Since then, LMS have evolved, becoming more modern, offering increased usability, features, and integrations with other tools. Starting fall 2016, a core committee met weekly to evaluate an alternative to Sakai. In spring 2017 the committee recommended Canvas to the Provost as a replacement for Sakai. The recommendation was based on 348 individuals, including faculty, student, and staff, who participated in the pilot evaluation and provided invaluable feedback. The recommendation was accepted and funded.

Why Canvas?

Four LMS were evaluated as part of project process, and Canvas received the highest marks across the board. Faculty and students rated Canvas as superior on dimensions such as ease of use, simple and clean user-interface, integration with many tools, and robust support resources. These advantages should provide an enhanced teaching experience for faculty, and an enhanced learning experience for APU students. To learn more about Canvas, please visit Instructure.
